This guide covers the basic installation of KiWAV stem-mounted mirrors on Harley-Davidson motorcycles. Some LED mirror models include additional wiring hardware; those steps apply only when your mirror has integrated LED lighting.
Quick answer: Remove the original mirror, retain the original internal tooth lock washer, install the new mirror stem through the hand control assembly, add the required washers and mounting hardware, then tighten to 8–12 ft-lb (10.8–16.3 Nm).
How to Install Motorcycle Mirrors on a Harley-Davidson
- Remove the original mirror and mounting nut. Retain the original internal tooth lock washer.
- Install a flat washer on top of the hand control assembly. This helps stabilize the mirror stem.
- Install the new mirror stem through the hand control assembly.
- If your mirror has integrated LED wiring: route the mirror power lead through the supplied ground-wire ring terminal, then install the ring terminal onto the mirror stem as shown below.
- For LED mirror installations: route the power lead through the wire guard and install the wire guard onto the mirror stem.
- Install the lower flat washer.
- Install the acorn nut or supplied mounting nut onto the mirror stem.
- Tighten to 8–12 ft-lb (10.8–16.3 Nm). Do not over-tighten.
- Check the mirror position and adjust if necessary.
Important for LED Mirrors: Protect the Wiring
If your mirror has integrated LED wiring, make sure the wire exiting the mirror stem is correctly positioned in the wire guard so it cannot be pinched or crushed by the mounting hardware.
Before final tightening, check that the wire is not trapped between the washers, nut, hand control assembly, or other mounting components.
